Artist Exhibit in Dundalk

As written in the Dundalk Herald   - 2006 ...read complete text below...

2006 -- The Dundalk Highland Artists will be holding their first exhibition on the weekend of May 5 and 6 at the Macintyre Building in Dundalk.  A committee was formed last year with the aim of having local artists show their work in Dundalk.  This past winter, the organizing committee invited artists to participate in a spring show.  Seven artists will be exhibiting their work.

The show spans a range of mediums and subject matter.  Norm Barlow's watercolours capture, in detail,  the history of our rural architecture.  Sometimes the work becomes the only surviving record.

The rich and varied landscapes of the Bruce Trail are the subject matter of Dianne Dean's paintings.  Her pallet includes both watercolour and oil.  Dianne enjoys assisting children in creating and appreciating art.

Katharina Rust draws inspiration for her mountainous landscapes from her childhood memories of Yugoslavia, just as many of her moody paintings are reminiscent of her difficult journey from Yugoslavia to Germany and finally to Canada after the Second World War.  Katharina works exclusively with oil.

Specializing in World War II airplanes, Brian Chapman's meticulous and accurate oil paintings are a tribute to not only his father, but to all those who served during the war.  Brian is not only an accomplished painter, but a gallery owner in Markdale.

David Chapman's interest in art started when, at a young age, he successfully photographed lightning.  Nowadays, David finds inspiration in the counties of Grey and Bruce.  Even at the age of 25, David has noticed changes in the landscape.  some for the good and some not for good.

Mervyn Fowler's colour photographs document his travels through the world.  While in Australia, he photographed the sacred and famous Ayers Rock.  Mervyn's love and interest in country scenes is reflected in his photography.

Betty Barlow uses organic materials to produce collages.  She chooses and preserves plants at the schoolhouse gallery so that others may enjoy them at their homes.

"We are very pleased with our first group show" says committee member Dianne Dean.  "Work has already started on next years show."
